Removal of urethral-bladder catheter (with follow-up)

Removal of the urinary catheter represents the withdrawal of the urinary catheter when urinary bladder drainage is no longer necessary. The variant with follow-up involves, in addition to the procedure itself, monitoring of the patient after catheter removal, to assess the correct resumption of urination.

After catheter removal, the patient remains under medical observation to verify:

• capacity for spontaneous urination
• efficient emptying of the urinary bladder
• absence of urinary retention

This stage is especially important for patients at risk of urinary retention or in the postoperative context.

The procedure is performed under safe conditions, by specialized medical personnel, and is generally well tolerated.

Depending on the course of events, the physician may recommend additional measures or subsequent monitoring.
